| The Compass
Rose started life about the turn of the century as the post office and
telegraph office serving the village of North Head. In 1928 a second
building was moved from about a mile away by two horses pulling the house
on greased poles. It was then joined to the post office to make one
building which now forms the main house of Compass Rose. Our adjoining
house was constructed in 1912 and was occupied by the same family, the
Flagg family, until 1985 when it became part of The Compass Rose Bed and
Breakfast. It had been the wish of Mrs Flagg that her home be added to the
property. |

We have three bedrooms in the main house and three in the Flagg House. All six guest rooms look out over the water and are furnished with pine antiques and early pieces suitable for a seaside guest house. Each room has been tastefully renovated, has a private bathroom, and a king, queen or twin bed. Some rooms are suitable for an additional family member, so please inquire about availability. The decks and grounds of the Inn are ideal for taking the fresh air and watching the famous high tides of the Bay of Fundy. |
| Please note that the Compass Rose is a non-smoking Inn and is not suited to children under 12. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets. |

Most lighting is now by energy saving compact fluorescent lamps. During the 2008 season we will be changing to phosphate free laundry and dishwashing detergents, and as many "green" cleaning products as possible. Solar and wind power, when available, is used to dry laundry (on the washing line!). Kitchen waste is composted and used on the garden. The septic tank is pumped annually to ensure no ground contamination. We sanitise matresses with a special environmentally friendly product. We give guests the option to reduce laundry by using towels for a second day if they wish. Transportation is minimised by using Island-grown produce when available. We separate cardboard packaging and send it for recycling. Returnable glass and other containers are recycled, and the proceeds go to local charities. If you have any suggestions on how we might do more, please let us know. |
